It never ceases to amaze me how the smartphone market in India is constantly evolving. This year has seen a number of modifications as well as some new entrants into certain markets, providing eager consumers with a very intriguing selection of devices. Brands like Motorola and Infinix have entered the affordable market head-on, while industry veterans like Xiaomi and Realme have only seen a few launches. Instead, Xiaomi has been moving up into the mid-range and higher end of the budget spectrum.
With OnePlus's late-year (several delays) release of the Open, the company's first book-style foldable, the competition between Samsung and OnePlus has never been fiercer than it is now in 2023. With their foldables and high-end smartphone offerings, companies like Oppo and Motorola advanced the game, while Samsung stayed relatively safe with its flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which boasts a respectable camera. Google helped to bring in the era of artificial intelligence on smartphones, but it notably missed the "folding" part in India, where the feature has seen a decent number of purchases this year.
